My name is Alpheus Madsen, and I am a mathematician trying to figure out how to best look for work. I currently work as a Web Developer for EV Source, using PHP, JavaScript and MySQL; I've been using Python for personal projects when I could find the time.

More recently, though--perhaps it's because I've been frustrated by PHP's limitations; or perhaps it's because a little bug in my Python 3D graphics engine has been eluding me for weeks--I've been open to new languages. I've most recently discovered Haskell, and, despite it being a new paradigm for me, I've fallen in love with the language! This may be because of how much mathematics has influenced the design of Haskell.

I've also been reading up on Lisp, and as I've read about Haskell and Lisp, I've decided that I really would like to learn how to tap into the power of these languages.

Most recently, I've decided that I would like, for once, to find work using a language I enjoy! Considering that those languages are Python, Haskell, Lisp, and maybe Forth, with the occasional C/C++/Assembler for optimization, I have no idea how to begin looking for such work.

Languages I've Used:

  • PHP (Intermediate)
  • Perl (Intermediate)
  • MySQL (Almost Advanced)
  • JavaScript (Intermediate)
  • Java (Intermediate, but rusty)
  • C++ (Intermediate, but rusty)
  • Assembler (Somewhat Intermediate, but rusty)
  • LaTeX (Almost Advanced)

Languages I Want to Use:

  • Forth (Intermediate, but rusty)
  • Python (Intermediate)
  • Haskell (Just beginning)
  • Lisp/Scheme (Just looking into it)
  • ReStructured Text (Intermediate)
